Easier than writing lots of individual emails

Archive for ICU (VHS)

I see that the last time I posted was on May 12th, 2009.
Today is June 2oth, 2009.
My silence is not from a lack of blog worthy life happenings… nope, I just need a scribe instead of me writing it all down.
I guess there’s a season for everything…and this last season was the one with no time to blog, I suppose.

Well, I guess I will just do bullets… that seems to be my way in almost all things these days.  So, in a stream of consciousness format, here goes:
-Bought an Expedit bookcase from ikea (on sale).  I’d been wanting to buy it for a couple years and just hadn’t gotten to it.  Half off got me to it.
-A cousin’s grad party in Merced.  Fun to see family… and my mom!  🙂
-A few days up at the Seelye’s house.  Rather, at the construction site.  ALWAYS good to see them
-Got 3 deals into escrow (with a couple other clients who got out bid…still searching)
-Barely keeping up with blogs, but trying.
-Joined Twitter… am still feeling my way around, but can see the benefits already!  And, a big thanx to Piper and that one mom and her blog.  🙂
-Have had communication (lunch/dinners/facebook, email) with peeps that I miss/dig: Lynda, Ona, Beth, the Chases, Joe, Amy, Kevin, Matt…
-Have taken my car in to the mechanic… a few times… not diggin that.  Don’t want to get a new car, but am pondering…
-Coordinated another wedding (or maybe a couple, I can’t remember)
-Have read some good books about New Zealand… have some library charges for overdue books too … it’s a trade off
-My Subway phase firmly ended in April.  Though, I now like Salt & Vinegar chips…which i never did before.
-An overnighter with the Harveys… ALWAYS a joy and a pleasure!  I miss living together.
-Went to the AVID banquet and marveled as some of our very first ICUers ‘graduated’
-Took a drive after church for a sabbath rest and ended up in quiet and cool places.  Mike is a good mellow travel buddy.
-Said goodbye to one of my Icelandic roomies.  She’s off to start the next chapter of her life… we’ll miss her
-Got an extension for a speeding ticket…am going to try to get night court…for obvious reasons
-Blogging for ‘Don’t Waste My Cancer’ .wordpress.com
-Went to TMS’ graduation pomp/circumstance in support of daren… had lots of thoughts whilst on the GCC campus
-Got my hair cut/colored . . . didn’t love the end product, but don’t really care either.  Too busy to care 🙂
-Said goodbye to a dear friend and worship team member, jeff l.  We miss him so much.  we sent him off with a ‘Carne Asada’ party.  duh.
-Had to cancel a bank account because one of my checks was stolen out of a recipient’s mailbox.  BIG drag.  Lots of subsequent drama.
-Afternoon/night hangout with Becka and Heidi…SO much fun!!!!!!
-Went to a celebration BBQ for Sarah Jane’s b-day . . . and visited her in the hospital after the birth of her 2nd child 🙂
-Love seeing Peter and Heather M … and met their cool son!
-Talked to my birthday buddy, Kate Spansel! Even though i called the day after our birthdays, it was still so great!
-took part in a series of meetings to be reconciled with someone… God’s cool!
-My camera broke… big bummer for so very many reasons…
-Went to the San Diego Zoo for an afternoon, then dinner with Scott & Mike… mellow.. much needed calm
-LOTS of emails, paperwork, etc for work
-canceled LA Fitness membership… it would be better if i could hire someone to workout FOR me…
-Had  my eyebrows done with Valeria … learned that her son has an incurable disease.  😦  much prayer for them to see the hand of God
-Have ‘seen’ lots of pay per view movies (aka: had them playing in the background whilst working): ones i remember are Marley & Me, the Great Outdoors, some Sundance flicks…oh, and saw ‘UP’ in the theatre
-Hung out here and there with the Powells and enjoyed Yogurberry a great deal
-Old school style…. spontaneous errand running with Ona!  Like the old days!!
-Changed brokerages.  LOVE my new brokerage!!!!  Wish i had done it so long ago!!!!    It was a lot of work ramping up to it and now have SO much to learn that Keller Williams VIP has to offer!

-LOTS of internet research for work and other quests based on ambition/obedience
-Have spotted my 1st black widow of the summer (in my home)…the killing spree is about to resume 🙂
-took a walk …it included 2 college campuses and lots of stairs…calves & quads mentioned it in the days that followed
-Lots of fun ‘designing’ back/forth with Heidi for all my updated marketing (with new brokerage logos etc)
-Welcomed the 1st baby to be born by a CURRENT worship team member: Jacob Smith (born to greg, our drummer).  Now, Jacob is our mascot.  🙂 🙂 🙂
-got new sunglasses… I made my last ones last until the coating was peeling off in my hair (classy)
-and other stuff….

Sooooooo, here are some updates…

-Man Pageant was a success!  If you have Facebook, find the ‘ICU club at VHS’ and add…there you will find great pics and VIDEO of the ‘talent portion’…which was my favorite element, especially the 1 man, 2 scene, 3 character rendition of a Spanish soap opera!  Thank you to EVERYONE who cared!  It was so worth the almost 2 days of recovery…(we had an all day screening and THEN the Man Pageant at night…and I’m getting too old for these marathon events that require standing for 15 hours).  🙂  Oh, and Ricky from La Mesa graduated and is now at VHS….remember him ‘Batman, Robin’?  He came to the screening and when he saw me at the door, he instantly remembered my name.  🙂
Cast & Crew

-A new favorite activity…’Monday .99 tacos at La Rumba in Saugus’ (with the Brocks!).  SERIOUSLY, it is the best taco in the SCV.  In addition to the cheap deliciosity, another element that makes it so fun is our server, Moises (pronounced ‘Moy-sis’)  He’s my new favorite merchant in SCV…great service, witty humor, local business minded…everything I love in a restaurant server.  So, we’re there every Monday night…feel free to join us!  FYI-the tacos are .99 all day/night on Monday.  🙂  Tip big and tell Moises I sent you!

-The Black Widow Death Toll at my house is now at 15!
I actually bought ant/spider spray, but I knew it would not kill the widow, as they are resilient to almost all pesticides.  I bought it as a decoy and I got my test run 2 nights ago…I sprayed it to death (but not really).  SHe shriveled over and over, but eventually started unfolding again.  However, in her shriveling process she’d fallen from the web to the ground.  I let the writhing go until I had a solid body shot….then I dropped the Reef hammer.  Instant death.

-I saw 2 movies since I last wrote.
One was outstanding and one was ‘eh’.  The 2 movies were ‘The Kingdom’ and ‘Righteous Kill’…I won’t tell you which was which unless you really want to know.

-Lately, I have been stunned by the stupidity and corruption in the real estate world.  Too much to write here, but trust me…it’s CRAZY out there!  I’m praying for Christlikeness and grace…otherwise I will be a perfect candidate for anger management classes.

-I recently solidified a major element of my political positioning.  I am confident that every person who is of the age of accountability is a free standing moral agent who should make their own choices and consequently, will answer for those choices (whether they be good or bad choices, immoral or moral, but they will be answered for, eventually).
However, there are humans who don’t get the chance to answer for themselves.  I am quite clear that what God requires of me, and holds me accountable for, is playing a part in protecting those who cannot protect themselves.  I can not actively support anything that advocates murder of innocent children.  I will answer to God for my choices in life and I will answer for how I used my time, my resources, my life (or rather, the time, resources, life that HE gave me).  I know that He condemns the murder of the innocent and that I will answer for my role in fighting it.  I could spend my time fighting things like ‘gay marriage’ , but grown ups can make their own choices.  Murdered children can not.  Soooooooooo, looks like my choices for political voting have been dramatically narrowed for me.   Aaaand, I’m kind of stoked about that.

-I lost my favorite (and only) black fleece hoodie.  I left it at the restaurant on Saturday morning.  Tear.  I think The Way Station lied about ‘not finding it’.  You know how they are.

-I had a ‘My Life As A Seinfeld Episode’ incident with a retarded person.  I’m not joking.  It’s too long to go into here, but trust me, I wish there was a hidden camera on me as the retarded girl cursed me and then ignored me as I tried 6 times to speak with her.  Thankfully I’ve worked with special ed kids in the past, so I was somewhat prepared.  Good stuff!

-I saw my roomate, Una, 2 times today…which makes 3 times since she’s moved in.  We get along FANTASTICALLY! 🙂

MAN PAGEANT ’08….tonight…7pm…Valencia High School.
You’re invited…everyone you know is invited….seating is limited…$7 at the door.
You will not want to miss it…it’s for the kids!
watch the manly promo….
post the manly flier…

Man Pageant…do it!

Welp, since I last wrote…
-I haven’t slept much
-I taught 2 days of 7th/8th grade ELD I, II, III classes…which are students who don’t speak English (on 3 levels)…DEFINITELY some hidden camera show moments…as you know, I am not bi-lingual
-Went diving on Catalina: it was more of a ‘trial & error’ trip, as it was the 1st completely ‘independent of all supervision’ dive trip for both Mike & I.  We didn’t die, so that’s good.
-Worked for a week as an office manager at a manufacturing plant…they make jet parts (might have mentioned that earlier)
-Showed houses and wrote 2 offers for 2 different clients
-Tried to connect over the phone with a SD friend …dueling schedules making it prohibitive
-Have spent lots and lots of time doing worship team stuff
-Went out on a limb and tried a new set of toppings at Subway: spinach, feta cheese and Greek sauce…yes, please.
-Had meetings with ICU president, Amelia, regarding the Man Pageant ’08 (which is in 2 days: THursday!) and had meetings at VHS with other students
-Spent time with Valeria and Lindsay (my eyebrows and hair are so thankful); was also a witness to radically beneficial changes for Mike B.
-Visited Curt’s renowned grounds in Box Canyon
-Hung out with the Brocks: special time, field trips, meetings, weddings….
-Lured friends into ‘ .99 Taco Mondays’ at La Rumba …I’m pretty sure it’s going to be a staple event!
-Had my 1st ‘House Meeting’ with my new roommates…went great…haven’t seen them since (it was 2 weeks ago)
-Started a new book during my lunch break for ELD subbing…pretty good…once again, I love the WWII era
-Called the sherrif 2x due to unruly neighbors who loudly rev up around 11:45pm…on Saturday

I wish I could give more highlights, but gotta run…

I love when Todd Bolen does posts of random finds..so, in the spirit of ‘sharing’, here are a couple of fun discoveries

1.  Feedback from consumers on almost any ‘info-mercial’ product…knowledge is power.
2.  Be your own doctor; check your symptoms 🙂
3.  Gift ideas for moms, grandmas, people who like unique stuff

Beyond that, I’ve had a reasonable week:
1.  Have done some grading with Jennene (grading is boo, btw)
2.  Had a birthday (35th)… it had some funny elements of ‘you know you’re old when…’
-had my teeth cleaned at my new dentist (and learned SO much from my new hygenist)
-ran errands
-my new camera and Rota Dent toothbrush arrived!
-reconnected with my former AWESOME dentist, Dr Tran, for a 2nd opinion
-full of many fantastic b-day wishes (including 2 ‘early’ ones due to international time zones-thanx Bruce & Jessi)!
-Talked to my birthday buddy, Kate Spansel-we call each other every year since we share the same b-day 🙂
-got to attend VHS graduation at COC and work the ‘diploma distribution’ station…SO, I actually got to hand Robert & Alli their official HS diplomas!  SO fun (and sad that they’re moving on).

3.  Worked (of course): real estate & subbing
4.  Had my garage door fixed (LOVE homeownership)
5.  Lots of internet research about lots of things (THANX world wide web)
6.  Started a new book; will give my review upon completion
7.  Talked to Mark Spansel about his family’s upcoming move to OHIO to take a Sr. Pastor position!!!!!! Happy for them, but sad that he won’t be nearby
8. Have watched the house slowly vacate, as my roommates move out today (May 31st).
9.  Have had 2 responses from Craig’s List…not sure if they’re viable yet.  Still praying 🙂
10. Scheduled my first ever ‘BULK PICK UP’ from waste management.
11. Started my mandatory real estate license renewal work
12. Cleaned up my ‘yard’ , also known as our patio, that had taken a beating in the winter elements (again, LOVE home ownership) 🙂
13. Went to DMV (again) and got the same rude ‘service’ person.  It wasn’t as bad as last week (I’m not sure I posted about it), but it sure wasn’t my favorite.  Smiling is.  Now work’s my new favorite.

UPCOMING WEEK (isn’t it you, Berit, that likes the ‘upcoming’ lists? 🙂 )
-graduation party for one of our ICUers
-3 days of subbing a 7th grade science class (last week of school at a junior high…should be pretty funny!)
-real estate work (of course)
-a few dinner engagements; a few lunch engagements
-studying/reading: real estate, other stuff
-our ICU year-end party at Alli’s (watching War Dance & hanging out)
-NOT going out of town!!!!!! (in the last 3 months, I’ve been gone a total of 31 days)

Well, I”m off (to see the wizard).

Sooo, I drove up to Walnut Creek on Thursday night.  The Seelyes are always great to ‘go-home’ to.
It was BLAZING hot up north, by the way.

Friday:  Worked out at the Seelye’s gym..or shall I say at their 25 star resort/spa gym; then breakfast, then made my way over to the Ramia’s domicile for carpooling to Berkeley.  Finding parking in Berkelely gave my uncle Joe an opportunity to, once again, show his moxy.  The graduation was as expected: hot and long, but we were all exceptionally proud of Michelle.  She’s awesome!  (and during the 4th speaker, I got the call from escrow that one of my transactions closed!…paycheck waiting for me back in SCV).  The party was back at the Ramia’s …there were probably 90-110 people throughout the night.  LOTS of family and friends.  Left with my sister, Bridget, and went to sleep at the Seelye’s (complete with Odin laying on top of me, unaware that he weighs 80lbs and it was 100+ degrees out).

Saturday: A GREAT breakfast made by Christina (she’s awesome!).  Made our way to the Ramia’s and then to the Highland games in Livermore.  THEN, cruised over to see our first great-grandchild on the Driscoll side.  VERY fun!  THen back to the Seelye’s for another fantastic meal by Christina.  Then Michelle came over to hang out…we sat on the back deck and looked out over the view of the world and just chilled.  Ahhhh.

Sunday:  Woke up at 4:30am to take Bridget to the airport. I LOVE early mornings (thanx, mom 🙂 ).  Came back to sleep for a few hours and was awakened by 3 little boy faces, 1 grown up Michelle face and one adorable Odin face.  We had ANOTHER great breakfast from Christina and hung out until Trevor and I got to work on some business items.  I left the Seelye’s around 6pm and made my way to Hanford to chill with the Harveys.  Got there and did all that I could to stay awake (I’m getting old…early mornings and then late nights are not as easy as they used to be).

Monday: A great ‘day in the life’ at the Harvs…like an infant, I napped in the morning while Kristin folded laundry and attended to the children…I could NOT keep my eyes open…I think the weekend caught up with me.  I was awakaned by Zach putting a decorative pillow over my face.  I waited for a bit and then got up, went swimming with the master and then spent the afternoon with Kristin, doing research.  Then family dinner (awesome burgers!) and then stuff (House, etc.).  I was too tired to drive home (which was the original plan), so I slept there again and then left at 6:15am this morning (Tuesday).

Tuesday:  Got home, returned emails, unpacked, showered and then made my way to our last ICU club meeting of the year (tear).  Alli did an outstanding job all year and we’re really sad to see her go.  We have a ‘War Dance’ party at her house in a couple of weeks..so, it will be nice to see the club members again before summer really starts.  I also rolled about $300 worth of coins from the ‘Change For Change’ drive that we did last week.  Other errands and then grading with Jennene until 10pm-ish.  The whole day I felt like I was fighting jet-lag…just trying to stay awake until ‘bedtime’ (normal people’s bedtime…wait, why am I still awake at 11:46pm?).
