I’ve lived in LA since spring of ‘95.
There are many ‘local’ things I’ve never done in LA.
Saturday, around 1:30pm, I got a text from a friend ‘Getty? tonight?’
We got there around 3:30pm and left around 7:30pm.
I LOVE the Getty Museum.
The state of the art architecture, the views, the art, the guards/ushers, the history of the museum, the fact that there’s a Malibu Villa that specializes in the niche that I love (Grecco/Roman/Egyptian) and that I got tickets for it, the museums’ gardens, the fact that there’s no pressure to see it all because it’s free and you can go back any time, the cleanliness…these are just some of the reasons I love it there. I hope to go back lots of times…I hope to go there during work days (when there aren’t’ so many people) and just enjoy the calm.
So, for all of you who have been to the Getty and have raved about it, I now understand and am totally on board.

Oh, how I miss the Getty. I discovered it in junior high, 8th grade I believe. And I used to go every 4 months or so, mainly to take pictures int he amazing gardens ad/or visit their exhibit space. I’ve only ever gone through the permanent installation once, since I’m not too keen on older art, I’m more of a modern/contemporary person. Though there are a few exceptions. I highly recommend the gardens whether it’s for a great photo op or to just calmly coexist with beautiful foliage. =] I’m glad you’ve discovered it. Keep an eye out for their exhibitions, they tend to be awesome.
