I’LL HAVE A BLOODY MARY, A STEAK SANDWICH AAAND A STEAK SANDWICH

THE 8 STEPS OF IPOD

I’ve made it a long long time without an Ipod.  In fact, I remember the first time I saw one, years ago, was when Caleb Hagen brought one to an RD retreat in Santa Barbara and we all looked at it and grunted like it was the first fire ever built…we’d never heard of such a thing.  And now, years later, it seems like every
3rd grader has one.

I have 8 reasons why I think it’s time
1. I don’t want to touch CD’s anymore.  I don’t want to store the ‘jewel cases’ anymore either.
2. I want to listen to sermons and podcasts wherever I am without having to plan ahead and download one and then burn it etc etc etc
3. I want to listen to something other than the same 2 cds that have been in my car for the last 6 months
4. I want to be able to listen/rehearse the music for Worship Team in my car…right now my inbox is clogged with HUGE MP3 files of songs emailed to me…and then I can only listen to them on my PC without all the drama of burning a CD, having more CDs to touch, more jewel cases to crack etc.
5. I want to pretend to exercise and having music or something making sound in my ears makes the disdained activity go by just a wee bit faster
6. I’d like to be able to watch The Office wherever I go
7. I think the compactness of it will fit nicely into my current life…I’m constantly trying to down size and this seems like a GREAT way to do it in my media world
8. I think it will aid in my travels.  I hope to begin traveling the world again soon and what better tool to bring than an Ipod (AND a MasterCard AND gifts for the orphans AND a U.S. passport…)
8. It’s time to spend lots of money on and have to learn yet another new piece of technology that will soon malfunction in such a way that I get to spend hours on tech support to India

Summing it up, if you have any good recommendations for me and my needs, please let me know.  If you’re selling one, giving one away, or anything that can save me a buckeroo as I venture into this Iland, I’d certainly appreciate it!

Sam…Jen got me the 30 GB black video ipod for me, and it has worked out great. Make sure you order through the TMC Apple site to get a discount- http://www.apple.com/masters. Also…get Apple Care…it’s worth it, it’s a warranty you will want.

Sam, you’re the best. I want one too and for the same reasons, maybe even more. Maybe we can go shopping together to get one, like there’s a clearance rack somewhere, i don’t know…who knows? Anywho, huggs and kisses!!!

If you are truly desperate and need to fill your iPod fix without leaving the SCV there is a vending machine that sells them in Pavilions grocery store on Magic Mountain and McBean. It doesn’t come with the discount (which is very nice) but it does come with the extra thrill of buying an iPod as though it were a piece of candy.

I too resisted all iPods or things that looked like them, etc. I thought I would never opperate one or gasp…own one; however, I love mine (Nano 4 GB) and find myself thinking how on earth have I gone so long without it. I don’t recommend my iPod to you because you can’t watch TV shows on it but it is perfect for travel/exercise and is extremely compact.

I got mine through Grace Bookshack , and at the time they were selling it already loaded with numerous sermons and lectures from a variety of conferences – over $100 worth! This was the best “deal” I could find as they don’t really seem to go on sale.

I’m in the same boat Sam… having to plan ahead and burn CD’s to listen to in the car – what a pain! I already have a 15G iPod that is a couple years old, but no hookup for it in my truck. I’m interested to find out how you decide to use it in your car’s stereo system. I’ve tried the Belkin FM transmitter in the past and found it works pretty well with music, but many sermons/podcasts are saved at a low bit rate which cause static and cracking through my transmitter. And my deck has no cassette for a tape adapter.

Hey Sam, I have The Office on my iPod and believe me, its great. I just hook it up in the car, and I can listen to the episodes while I drive places. We got our ipod hookup for the car at Fry’s and we love it. I also noticed that you have 9 reasons mentioned, there are two 8’s. I thought it was interesting.

i like reason #6 the best. you can replay those precious michael scott moments that can fill a heart with joy.
also,
as far as #8… do your travel plans include oahu? by the way, i still haven’t taken the ipod plunge yet… but you’re convincing me.

SO??? Did you take the glorious plunge into ipodland? It is glorious Sam. You’ll never look back. If you love organization as much as me … and I KNOW you do, it’s like hearing your very first Piper sermon, like a first kiss, like … well I’ll leave more to your imagination. I’m a 30 GB Black video guy (not for videos, but so that I never have to limit music or sermons loaded on it) connected to a Sony car stereo deck with a front Aux input (only $89) so nice clean music and preaching. Go now and buy my friend!
